THE EXECUTIVE CAREER ACCELERATOR

At Vertical Motion, we help people who are authentic, empathetic, & audacious become the best versions of themselves.

We offer personalized guidance, expertise, and an outcome-based, structured approach to help you maximize your potential and achieve your executive aspirations & professional objectives.

We work with mid-career professionals who feel stuck and can’t figure out how to move to the executive ranks. We teach you everything you need to know to go all the way to the top.

We also work with senior executives (VP, C-Suite, etc.) in an intimate mastermind setting to build their executive brand and move to the next level in their executive career journey.

The Challenge:

You are ready to move up in your career into or beyond the executive ranks, but you’re struggling with how to get started. Just finding executive-level roles is difficult, and interviewing for them is even harder.

Maybe you’re lacking the confidence in your own executive abilities and can’t seem to find a clear answer on what makes executive roles different than manager or individual contributor roles.

Or maybe you’re a great executive already, but just can’t seem to find or land that next level role.

There are three stages in a typical career:

  • A woman with long dark hair and glasses working on a laptop in a bright modern office with large windows, white brick walls, and light blue chairs around a table, seen through a yellow chair in the foreground.

    Individual Contributor

An individual contributor in a company is an employee who contributes to the organization's objectives primarily through their own skills and efforts, rather than by managing others.

  • Two women conversing in a kitchen, holding coffee mugs, against a wooden panel background.

    Manager

Managers are tasked with managing resources in an organization by ensuring that organizational goals are met through the efforts of their subordinates.

  • Three women working together and discussing documents in a casual office setting.

    Executive

An executive in a company is a senior-level employee who makes high-level decisions, sets strategic directions, and oversees the overall performance of the organization.

  • Two women standing in an office or classroom, looking at documents. One woman has short blonde hair and is wearing a black vest over a white shirt, the other has curly hair and is wearing a light-colored blazer and holding a binder labeled 'February'. There are papers and sticky notes on the wall behind them.

What Got You Here Won't Get You There

To take your career to the executive level and become the leader you know you can be, you must first develop your executive presence, a strong brand, and a powerful executive network.

Without these, you will be left standing on the wrong side of the gap between manager and executive.

  • Group of people sitting around a wooden table during a meeting, with laptops and notebooks, one person is pointing at a tablet, and another is taking notes.

    From Manager to Executive

The gap between Manager and Executive is deceptively wide. To make this transition, it takes more than learning about finance and other business basics.

Executives have an entirely different mindset than managers.

About Tom Cox

Tom founded Vertical Motion in early 2023 while he was still fighting a battle against Acute Myeloid Leukemia. When he rang the bell and was given a new lease on life, Tom decided to retire from his 25-year career in Aerospace and Defense, and devote the rest of his life to helping good people become great leaders.

Leukemia helped Tom realize how important it is to believe in what you do. This is why our programs are so different than others - we really help you find yourself first, and then decide where to go next.

Before Vertical Motion, Tom was a leading strategy, innovation and business development executive. He founded multiple venture-backed companies at the bleeding edge of mobile communications technology, and has closed more than $1.5B in contracts in his career.

While Tom started Vertical Motion, a whole team now carries out the vision and builds our community. Meet them below!
